All students, Pre-K3 – 5th grades, attend one specials class a day. They visit the FoodPrints classroom and garden once a month. These classes provide students with fun learning experiences that help develop their gross motor, creativity, and collaboration skills.

Library
We have a full-time librarian at Amidon-Bowen. Our library has over 5,000 books that students can check out.
Music
During music class, students are introduced to the fundamentals of music practice and enjoy exposure to drums and other instruments.
The Amidon-Bowen choir has sung at concerts throughout the city and special programs from the Mayor’s office to the Capitol Building. In addition, students annually participate in a specialized violin or drum instruction program. The year-long training, complete with a violin or drum loaned to each child for the duration of the course, culminates in a concert.
Art
Students explore and create art in a variety of mediums – such as oils, crayons, abstracts. Our student art is currently exhibited in the Department of Education.
In art, students also experience field trips to the National Gallery and other world class art institutions.
Physical Education
PE classes give children the opportunity to develop physical skills while learning about teamwork and competition. As part of PE, students also learn about proper nutrition.
Amidon-Bowen is one of the few elementary schools in DC to have a full-size dedicated gymnasium, a full-size baseball & athletic fields, & an artificial turf soccer field.
Fresh farms FoodPrints
Amidon-Bowen partners with Fresh Farms FoodPrints program to provide monthly gardening and healthy cooking experiences for all ABES students. Check out this feature of Food Prints at Amidon-Bowen covered by CNN.
